Max got a haircut and of course we chronicled the event as if it were Pope Francis bringing peace to the Holy Land. Kim and Kanye should have been so lucky.
Max gets excited when he hears the magic words “go out” but later is less than pleased when he realizes the trip is to see Miss Nanako at Beauty Salon for Doggies. Once the target destination is sighted, he starts quivering like Bill Cosby describing Jello.
Once groomed he is soft as velour. Hard to believe this guy belongs to a species that includes the African wild dog, mastiff and pit bull.
This little frou-frou’s life expectancy outside his snug home would be measured in hours at best. Let’s just say that his odds of surviving the impending Zombie Apocalypse are long, real long.
The diversity of the canine species is extraordinary and that’s because changing their genetic code is relatively simple compared to other species.
In humans, for example, nearly every characteristic is governed by a complex network of genes and these genes work in combination to display different outcomes.
But with dogs, many quite drastic changes, such as fur type and ear shape, are controlled by a single genetic variation.
In fact, National Geographic reported that a huge research project called CanMap determined that every single biological difference affecting dogs’ appearance is controlled by one of around 50 gene variations.
I think Max feels better, or at least cooler, after the ordeal. I don’t see why there must be so much drama. It’s not like we asked Miss Nanako for the “Insane Clown-Poodle Cut” option.
So in the end the frou-frou was restored. It must have been stressful because he immediately took a nap upon returning home. Wait a minute…that’s all he does anyway.

The thing with the frou-frou set is that they know they are cute and use that against us poor humans to extract special attention. It works.

How do you keep him so white? I see other dogs with brown discoloration around their mouths like vagrants.

We’ve found that power washing with Clorox is effective. I kid, I kid, don’t go all PETA on me, please! Actually there are some “tricks of the trade” with white dogs and Max takes a dietary supplement that reduces the tear and saliva staining common to these pups. Main thing is maintenance – washing his muzzle and wiping around the eyes, avoiding foods with dyes and changing his oil every 3,000 miles.

As long as you don’t express his glands…

Hey, I’m a guy. We don’t even express our feelings. That gland stuff is for women.

Max blushes at the compliments. But we know it’s all a ploy to increase his share of treats.

I did not know this group but I’ve since Youtubed it (can that possibly be a correct verb form?) and they are pretty good; their songs have a certain earworm quality. With apparently just one album I think I can master the complete Frou Frou discography aver a six pack. Thanks for the tip.

You’re very welcome. Not sure how well a dog will handle a six pack, though. Maybe start with just one 🙂

One six pack. Got it.

What a beautiful little dog! I just found your blog and will definitely be back!
My name is Maija (pronounced My-uh), and you may be interested in checking out my blog as well. I’m posting a chapter per week of my book-in-progress, Funny Tails: Adventures and Misadventures in Living with Pugs, at http://maijaharrington.com. It’s a humorous look at life with our 3 pugs plus various foster pugs from Pug Rescue of North Carolina. So far, readers tell me it’s pretty funny. Stop by for some laughs if you have time.

Max is so adorable! 🙂 I remember my Kimi when I brought her to the groomer for the first time, her cut was too short than I expected, she got depressed I guess, she didn’t want to go out.

Aw, he is so cute. That smile is so adorable! Simba doesn’t like to be groomed either.

I’m in love with Max! my little Bichon, Lily, hates the groomers and I have to carry her up the driveway, as she digs her little heels in as soon as she realises where she is! My Cavachon, Poppy, is much easier to groom but she hates bathing. I’ve written about my two on my blog, if you feel like getting to know them! I’m definitely going to follow and keep up to date with Max’s adventures! X
